Can People Change?

I am a curious fellow, yes, but not so adventurous. Usually I do what I always do, eat what I always eat, and try new things only when I get a push. At the nearest McDonalds from here when I appear they know my order - Chicken crisp, at the school canteen they know my doughnuts and warm coffee, and I wore the same brown jacket for almost every single day for the last three winters. Yeah, I'm a creature of habit.
Last Saturday was my birthday. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and do things I've never done before or I do very rarely. I went to a mall I hadn't been to in months, grabbed Indian lunch, the first of the year. I went on to buy a bar of chocolate, the first Cadbury chocolate since I came to Japan, Marie biscuits also the first in three years, and then ice cream, my first ever Japanese green tea flavor. I went on around the mall and came to the cinema. It's the nearest and only cinema around here. Since it was only going to be my second time in a cinema, I decided to go watch something.

Technology makes our lives easier and more interesting in many ways. However, it's like a planet, always in motion. Not that I don't appreciate it, but at times it gets hard to keep up with the rate at which things change. Take a look at Facebook. For me, I gave up on trying to keep track of the new developments. At one point someone even suggested we call it The-ever-changing book.
Apple is one of the leaders in technology today, at least in my opinion. Every year they release new iPhones, iPads, etc, and their respective software versions. In last year's iOS 6, one of the new features to email was the VIP inbox. Today was the first time I opened it to see what it is about, how it works. But I found myself thinking about different things, and finally here I am writing this post.
Get Past The Past

This year I am making three years since I came to Japan. Every other day I learn something new about Japan. One of the things I have noticed about the Japanese is that most men shave their beard clean. For me I tend to let it grow and shave only once in a while. I guess most people, seeing me with a grown beard, perhaps they see it as just one of the many ways I am different from the other people around me. Some people think I look good with a beard while others think I should get rid of it.
Not long ago one of my teachers asked me a question that caught me off guard. “Why do you grow your beard?”. For the first time I took a moment to think about it. Since around the age of 17 I have had a beard, but I don’t remember once when I shaved it all off. You too may be wondering why I keep the beard, but before that day my teacher asked me I never thought of the reason why I did. I don’t let it grow wildly, but somehow it never goes away completely.
My Best Friends Of 2012

I am a man of many friends, but today I'm talking about only two of the best of them in the year 2012. To those who came to check if they made the list, sorry I have to break it to you, you didn't. You wonder, who did then? Read on and find out.
Before we get to my friends, I want to talk a little about myself. I call myself a self-styled psychologist, always watching people and trying to understand them, to figure out what makes them who they are. Once in a while I go to the mall just for people watching.
I am also a thinker, and I write a lot of what I think. I think about life, identity, belief and a lot more. I guess that would make me a philosopher and writer. Or since I'm not published yet, let me call myself a self-styled philosopher/writer.

At the beginning of 2012, "Page # of 366" was trending on Twitter. Like any other trend, it was a matter of time and it faded away. Well, we've finally come to Page 366 of 366, and this 2012 chapter will be in the archives too.
My life has always been about relationships, with God, with family and with friends. But yet here I am on New Year's Eve in a restaurant eating my last supper of the year alone. What happened to me, you could ask. The answer is simple, 2012 happened. I sat down to evaluate my year and the only good things that came to mind were the lessons I learned from the negative experiences. You may wonder, can it be that bad, yea, it can.
