Have you ever got to a point in life and you do not know how you got there? When you do things you never imagined yourself do, when you look in the mirror and can no longer recognize the person you see. I have been there. You're wondering how you got there, it's probably because you sold your soul.
Money, Sex, Power. Some people say these are the three most sought after things in the world today. I don't know how true that is but what I know is that a lot of people spend every waking moment of their lives pursuing them.
As humans, there are some things we are hard wired to desire. Some desires more subtle than the others but we all want them. Things like acceptance, approval, and yes, Love. Every human being want's these things.
You go shopping in need of a new shirt, only to find it costs more than you had budgeted. There is a price you were willing to pay, but it won't be enough. How much more are you willing to give then? Perhaps sacrifice one pair of socks to buy the shirt you want.
Likewise in life we are faced with circumstances that require us to give more than we anticipated and we are forced to make sacrifices. What are you willing to give up? Perhaps you will give up your pride for a little cash. But will you give up a friendship to get power, give up your Christian principles for acceptance? Careful, you may give up your soul in the process.
Selling your soul is not like you go to an auction and give it away to the highest bidder. It's also not like you take it to the pawnshop for quick cash. I haven't seen any souls on Amazon so it isn't that either.
Think about the compromises you make everyday. Did it ever occur to you that compromising could mean you give your soul away? Each time you cross the line. You are selling off your soul one piece at a time.
Living in Japan, I've had many instances where I have to choose, Principle or Preference. As a Christian I have to uphold my principles. I can't say it's easy. But if I am to hold onto my soul, I have to forfeit some pleasures. All these things I desire, I haven't found one worth giving up my soul.
The question is, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36 KJV. I will answer that for you, NOTHING. One thing worse than dying is living without a soul.
Each time you think of making a compromise, remember you will be putting up a poster saying "soul for sale".
